What's the Issue?
The affected vehicles, specifically the 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line and Land models manufactured between September 25, 2023, and May 28, 2024, have an issue with the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) software. Due to a software error, repeated use of the RSPA feature at speeds of approximately 2 mph or less may result in insufficient brake pressure. This can lead to extended stopping distances, increasing the risk of injury to pedestrians.
What Is Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA)?
The Remote Smart Parking Assist is an innovative feature that allows drivers to move their vehicle forward or backward remotely using the key fob. It's designed to help with tight parking spaces and ease of access. However, due to the identified software issue, this convenience feature requires an important update.
What Is Kia Doing About It?
Kia is proactively addressing this issue by conducting a safety recall campaign. Dealers will update the IEB software with improved logic to ensure high brake pressure is applied in all RSPA braking conditions. This update will rectify the problem and restore the safety and functionality of the RSPA feature.
What Should You Do?
If you own one of the affected models, Kia will begin mailing notices to owners starting on October 4, 2024. Upon receiving your notice, please schedule an appointment with our service department at Kia of Groton. Our certified technicians will perform the software update at no cost to you.
In the meantime, we recommend refraining from using the RSPA feature until the software has been updated. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our service team at 866-968-5027.
